Kybele's Garden: The Beginning of Regenerative Transformation in Algae Biotechnology

Kybele’s Garden is a technology and impact initiative born under the roof of METU Technopark, operating in the field of algae biotechnology.

Utilizing the power of algae, which provide 75% of the world’s oxygen and possess rich bioactive content; we offer regenerative and circular solutions addressing the problems and needs of the agriculture, food, and cosmetics sectors. Our goal is to create an impact that is not just sustainable, but beyond sustainable.

Bioponic Technology: Harvest yield, resource efficiency, functional contents like beta carotenes and chlorophylls, and carbon capture capacity parallel to chlorophyll content can be increased.
Fermentation Method: Functional content, sensory properties, and shelf life can be improved, and it is applicable to both classical and bioponic algae.

The outputs of these technologies can be used as raw materials for agricultural food and skincare, and are also an ingredient enricher that can be integrated into the systems of some existing producers for value upgrade.

Our Journey and Inspiration

We work with inspiration drawn from nature. Just like the Limosa Lapponica bird, which holds the world record for the longest non-stop flight, Kybele's Garden proceeds with the principles of "Design," "Sustainability," and "Resource Efficiency."

Kybele’s Garden was established in November 2021 and started R&D studies with TÜBİTAK 1512 funded algae-based bioponic works.

Our Key Milestones:

2021: Successfully completed the Women’s Empowerment in Agri-Food program funded by EIT Food and received a €5,000 award.
2022: Accepted into Google & Media Cat’s She Makes and the Sustainable Growth Programs in partnership with Hackquarters, HSBC, and WWF. These programs strengthened our strategy.
June 2022: Entered the cosmetics market with our registered trademark Biorenda, introduced our first products, and simultaneously began laboratory-scale trials of algae fermentation.
2023: Won the Food and Agriculture category championship in the Promising Startups 2023 competition in Turkey and the “Best Project of the Year” award in another competition.
2023: Officially secured our place on the #FoodTech 500 list, an indicator of global reputation.
2024: Were among the winners of the Stars of the Region Awards at the Uludağ Economy Summit 2024.
